Bearing Straight

See them ghost, the animals in cars as cars, all of us inside them to move. Muzzle-loading sleeper cabs, Dachshund bellies full of oil, red dog Sierras, Spud McKenzie sprinters, and side mirrored longhorn semis, all pound the old ice trails. Dirty Mary dreams at midnight. Crazy Larry, sober now, silent and very fast, sees shadows of bison herds cast by clouds. Pointers point, jackal shaped hoods with lions underneath, roaring revving no rest for the wicked, the terror of tinted window dually truck mastiffs, their dark eyes, that largemouth bass airbrushed on the tailgate, jaws open, ready to swallow, the hook.
