Robin Young
Cow House

Artist’s Statement
Cow House was made by taking pieces cut into cow shapes and arranging them into an abstract collage; you can even find some whole cows in this piece. Making an abstract collage out of cow bodies was my direct motivation for this piece: a new way of looking at something ordinary, or a new way of finding commonality, perhaps creating a need to look closer.
The Invisible Storm

Artist’s Statement
The Invisible Storm was made from pieces of a vintage Coca-Cola poster advertisement. The poster was quite old and difficult to cut without tearing, so I was careful to leave only parts of her outfit, and her head, so the background – cut from a few townscape pictures – would show through giving the piece a new vibe. Choosing to take parts out of, and insert other parts into, was my motivation. I titled it after Susan Storm, the Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman.
About the Artist
Based in Borrego Springs, California, artist Robin Young works in mixed media focusing mostly on collage and contemporary art. Her focus on collage art using magazine clippings, masking tape, wallpaper, jewelry, feathers, foil, etc., allows her to develop deep into the whimsical and intuitive.
From large, life-sized pieces, 3D sculptures, to small postcard-sized arrangements, Robin’s keen eye and gripping esthetic guide her viewers into her own semi-readymade world. Repurposing nostalgic images for lighthearted and sometimes disquieting messages; Robin’s artistic universe is strange, funky, sometimes perverse and always alluring. Her work has found its way into many publications including Sunspot Literary Journal, The Closed Eye Open, and Hole in the Head Review. Her work can also be seen in the Borrego Springs Art Institute.
