Noche Oscura

Artist’s Statement

In her essay “Woolf’s Darkness: Embracing the Inexplicable,” Rebecca Solnit tells us:

Most people are afraid of the dark. Many adults fear, above all, the darkness that is the unknown, the unseeable, the obscure. And yet the night in which distinctions and definitions cannot be readily made is the same night in which love is made, in which things merge, change, become enchanted, aroused, impregnated, possessed, released, renewed.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Artist’s Statement

Ray Bradbury’s eponymous novel – in which a huckster plays on villagers’ fears to usher in the carnival that wreaks havoc on their small town – is an apt metaphor for our time. Faced with existential threat on so many levels, will we – like the protagonists in the book – ultimately conquer dark forces with the formidable powers of love, laughter, and music?

The Gift of Wonder

Artist’s Statement

The small marvels of this world constantly sing to me. I try to answer with music.
