Editor's Note 2/26

JAUNE-MANGE.

Put two ounces of isinglass into a pint of water, and boil it till it has dissolved. Then strain it into a porcelain skillet, and add to it half a pint of white wine: the grated peel and juice of two large deep-coloured oranges: half a pound of loaf-sugar; and the yolks only of eight eggs that have been well beaten. Mix the whole thoroughly; place it on hot coals and simmer it, stirring it all the time till it boils hard. Then take it off directly, strain it, and put it into moulds to congeal.

Directions for Cookery

Welcome to our thirty-fourth and February issue, and our first issue of the new year! We’re kicking off the year strong with our trademark mix of poetry, prose poetry, and visual art, along with a new column in our regular critique series and a new music track.

Looking ahead, our first book project of the new year will be a fundraiser for our in-house poetry chapbook series: a cookbook!

The project is straightforward. We’re looking for fun, unique recipes that the average cook can easily make at home. Your own recipe? One passed down in the family? One a chef friend taught you? That’s exactly what we like. Any dish, any cuisine.
