Artist’s Statement

Ed Ruscha once said, “Art has to be something that makes you scratch your head.” Lancaster, California. Sometimes you find the greatest subjects when you decide to just go for a drive. Beyond that gate: poppy fields, painterly clouds, and a tank of gas.

Artist’s Statement

René Magritte declared that his art was intended to make the most familiar objects scream out loud. We’re both thinking the same thing: what would it look like if it blew up, right? Fireworks are supposed to explode, but one at a time. These fireworks are sleeping quietly behind cinderblock walls, the flag mid-gesture, as if unsure whether it’s advertising freedom or inventory. Don’t stay in the store too long, and please warn others of the danger. The spectacle hasn’t started yet: that’s the point. Anticipation is the hissiest fuse.
