The Wolves at the Door

brought chips,
and they brought cookies,
and they made me a pot of tea,
and they said,
You look so tired, and
You shouldn’t have to work so hard, and
Sit down and let us help you.

took care of everything.
They sold my car,
and they ordered groceries,
and they threw out my clothes,
and they bought new ones,
and they said,
Don’t you remember? and
You don’t like chips or cookies, and
That tea is too bitter.

answered my phone calls.
They checked my socials for me,
and they got me a new phone,
and they said,
Don’t worry about your friends
who never come over, and
They never call anymore, and
You have us now.

Rebekah Teller lives in the Ozarks in Missouri. She earned her Bachelor’s in graphic design at Missouri State University. Years later, a love of writing took over her creative life. She is earning an MFA through Lindenwood University and works as a copywriter. She has also published Flowing in the Trenches, a series of poetry collections.
