Kicking What Needs to be Kicked
About the Art
Kicking What Needs to be Kicked is gouache on board. I started out as an oil painter but eventually lost my sense of smell to the chemicals being used. I figured that was not a good sign and started to flop about for a few years in search of a new medium. I finally found gouache and loved it! I have been painting in gouache for the last 25 years. Many of my ideas develop from a single item I might see on a walk, in this case it was an old cowboy boot in the road. By the time I finished the walk the idea was fairly much ready. My primary influences come from primitive ancient art and the suburbs in which I live. I have spent quite a lot of time researching the origins and functions of art and this plays a role in my work as well.
