Steve Gerson

Shrill

!shrill, the world screaming
an animal /shredded/
in a steel trap

dead winds stilled:
inverted syntax (airlessly)
smothering

XX chromosomes
muffled by Y-grinning
teeth

gnashing
a child’s shriek in phones wincing
wire [cage] detention

life unruled in fractured families
speaking tongues in dry blood
beneath bird tweets in leafless trees
